TODAY’S CASES

The current government frenzy to prosecute highly respected and well qualified physicians in connection with the treatment of patients with chronic and debilitating pain has lead doctors to seek Mr. Knizley’s representation on Federal charges regarding opioid prescribing practices. The physicians Mr. Knizley currently represent that are being charged or investigated for alleged improper prescribing practices regarding fentanyl and other opioids include the doctor who prescribed a fentanyl patch for the “rock star” and former 3 Doors Down guitarist who died from a drug overdose in August of 2016; a nationally prominent physician with eight Board certifications in pain related and other disciplines arrested in connection with the DEA’s “Operation Pillution” , a wide reaching investigation of physicians who prescribed pain medicine; and a respected neurologist and sleep medicine physician who had prescribed opioids in his practice. Mr Knizley serves as lead counsel for a team of lawyers, paralegals, investigators, IT personnel and highly regarded medical experts in each of these cases.

Currently cases being defended in state court include an affluent housewife accused of attempting to murder her medical doctor husband, an emergency medical technician accused of sex abuse and possession of child pornography, a local law enforcement Lieutenant charged with rape and sexual abuse, other murders, vehicular homicides, and an array of other serious felony cases.

In Federal court, the clients Mr. Knizley currently represent include cases involving well respected doctors accused of illegally prescribing opioids, a commercial truck driver whose tractor trailer was seized allegedly containing over 20 kilograms of cocaine and marijuana, a member of an alleged gang that operates a drug trafficking enterprise, and other cases involving serious allegations of violating federal criminal statues.

Every criminal case properly and professionally defended by qualified counsel does not result in complete acquittals. The cases described here are examples of where that the result sought by the client was obtained. Each case is different, and the approach, handling and outcome is never the same.

IN THE NEWS:

‘Burn the courthouse down’ close helps win acquittal; attorney Knizley has used it before Lawyers often develop their own style in the courtroom, and often that means reusing themes that have worked during closing arguments in the past. For Dennis Knizley, it has been references to burning courthouses and justice.
